Born the first chick of the year
Friday, 03 April 2009 15:23

Today was born the first chick of the year. It’s a Red Nape Shain (falco pelegrinoides babylonicus) one of the rarest falcons of Hierofalco family, threatened in the wild and with a very reduced genetic pool in captive breeding population. This falcon, was born without any help, with a great vitality, as can be seen in the picture, asking for food only two hours after hatching, what is a proof of any relation between the parents. The parents came out from falcons imported from the Gulf what is also a guarantee of their genetic purity. We have more 6 fertile eggs from this specie, from 2 different and unrelated couples. This year, we hope to breed around 60 birds of prey, from the different species we have.
